How We Serve
Our members play
significant roles in support of our worship experiences. There are many
opportunities to volunteer gifts of time and talent.
Altar Flowers
Any member of the congregation may donate altar flowers for a specific Sunday
either as a memorial or in honor of a person or special event.
Altar Guild
Members prepare for Baptisms and Communion at the worship service, and change
the seasonal paraments on the altar, pulpit, and lectern. Members work in teams
for a month. Teams are rotated during the year. Each team serves three months
during the year. Substitutes are needed and can be added to an on-call list.
Assisting
Ministers
Volunteers participate in the worship service representing all lay members.
Typically, assisting ministers lead prayers and help prepare for communion. They
work on a prearranged schedule.
Communion
Assistants
Volunteers assist serving communion during worship services. They work on a
prearranged schedule.
Greeters
Families or several members volunteer to greet worshipers as they enter the back
of the sanctuary prior to a service.
Lectors
Individuals volunteer to read the lessons from the lectern during worship.
Ushers
Ushers provide programs to arriving worshippers, collect offering, and manage
the flow of those receiving Communion. Individuals work on teams that rotate on
a monthly basis.
You may call the church office (632-8802) for more information
or to volunteer.
All
Nations
Holy Communion Lutheran Church
enjoys a rich ministry partnership with All Nations Pentecostal Prayer House.
Four churches, Wayman, Greater Grace, Holy Communion and All Nations work to
provide and serve breakfast to needy children before they go to school each
morning. Holy Communion also responds to the needs of these children by
collecting underwear, clothing, outerwear and school supplies for them.
Christmas cheer is exchanged with gifts for the children and singing and
drumming by the children. Look for sign up sheets and collection boxes for this
important ministry at both campuses.
Community Meal
For over 15 years members of Holy Communion have regularly offered free
meals to those in our community who are in need. Every other month, volunteers
prepare casseroles, salads and desserts and serve them at St. Patrick's Catholic
Church. In doing so, they show God's love in a very ancient way, by breaking
bread and sharing it with the needy.
There are several ways you can volunteer to help with Community Meal:
- Make casseroles
We have a special recipe we use that you can use to
make one or more casseroles at home and bring the casserole to the church
kitchen by noon the day of the meal.
- Make cupcakes
- Make one or more dozen cupcakes at home and bring the
cupcakes to the church kitchen by noon the day of the meal.
- Transport food to St. Patrick's church
- This job requires a van or truck to take the food from
HCLC to St. Patrick's.
- Serve the meal at St. Patrick's church
Serve the food to the guests at St. Patrick's church.
- Sign up on the sheet outside the church
office.
- Contact the church office for recipes or if you have any
questions.
Food Pantry
- Each month the food pantry puts out a request for
specific items to contribute. However, keep in mind that
donations of other food or cash are always welcome.
Volunteers to help each Monday and Friday are always needed, call
Sharon Wilczynski at the church office to volunteer.
Prayer Shawl
Ministry
Shawls are knit or crocheted while praying and given to members or friends
who needs comfort. This ministry could be something you can do at home or
with a group. WELCA will provide the yarn and pattern.
Monetary donations for yarn are also appreciated. If you would like to
give a shawl to someone call the church office at 637-6373
